Guru Collection Pictures of Pencak Silat Masters in Indonesia Hasan Habudin Here, on the left, is one of my guru, Hasan Habudin. I started studying with him when I was 38 years old. He taught me the spiritual aspects of pencak silat or “kebatinan”. Now he is 89 years old. He is the founder of Pamur in the island of Madura. Muhammad Musa Muhammad Musa was one of the elders of Panglipur Bandung and a guru I very much respected for his personality and knowledge of Sundanese penca. He passed away 4 years ago in Bandung, West Java. Rifai Sahib Rifai Sahib is the founder of the Perguruan Panca Sakti Jakarta. He is a guru and also a friend. He is very knowledgeable about the history of pencak silat in West Java and Jakarta. He is one of the members of a team of experts formed by IPSI to standardize the various pencak silat styles Indonesia into a national style. Rustadi Effendi Here, on the right is Rustadi Effendi, IPSI Vice President and Executive Director. He was the manager of the Indonesian team on 1978-1987, when I was a national athlet. Since then we have been very close because of our common love for pencak silat. Ramli Ramli is the guru of Perguruan Sile’Tuo Pusako Minang in Bukit Tinggi. From him I learned some interesting locking techniques. During my research, he accompanied me to different gurus in Bukit Tinggi to learn about the various sile’ styles. He has many students in Holland and Germany. Gurus Standing from the left are Martin Jansen, H Harsoyo, Noto Soejitno, Sakti Tammat, and Inggrid. The photo was taken in The Hague in 1990. Martin thaught me about tradional Indonesian weapons and H Harsoyo thaught me the pesilat way of live and the importance of truth to oneself and others. Arnowo Adjie Pendekar Persaudaraan Perisai Diri Indonesia Arnowo Adjie. From 1979 to 1984 he was the national pencak silat trainer (IPSI). During that period he thaught me fighting techniques that proved very effective in competitions. FX Marto FX Marto is the guru of Persatuan Hati Yogyakarta. Here he shows one of PH low standing positions. Sudar and Ilham In the photo with Sudar is my good friend Ilham, master of Elang Putih In Bondowoso. When we were children, we often went together to search for knowledge with all kind of guru in East Java. Sudar Sudar is showing the gagak hitam (black crow) standing position. Sudar Sudar is the founder of the Perguruan Gagak Hitam, Bondowoso, East Java. In the Dutch colonial time he was considered a jago. Pendekar Mariman Pendekar Mariman is the master of Setia Hati Organisasi, Salatiga, Central Java. I also consider him my guru as he taught me some ground fighting techniques. Abdus Syukur Abdus Syukur shows one locking technique or ‘kunci keppek’. Jurus Pepedangan Cotco This is the third step or ‘jurus pepedangan cotco’. Jurus Pepedangan Due This is second step of pencak Bawean or ‘ jurus pepedangan due’. Jurus Pepedangan Settong This is the first step of pencak Bawean or ‘jurus pepedangan settong’. Abdus Syukur Abdus Syukur (wearing the white turban) is guru Bawean style in Bondowoso, East Java. This style orginates from the island of Bawean. I first learned this style from my grandfather, Matrawi. Pechrudin Pechrudin demonstrates duduk sempok, a ground fighting technique. Pechrudin Pechrudin shows hand attack jurus selong satu. In spite of his advanced age, he still continues to exercise pencak silat in the belief that it can make him live long. Enny Rukmini Sekarningrat Enny Rukmini Sekarningrat demonstrate jurus jalak pengkor, one of my favorite techniques. Mustika Kwitang The third person standing on the left is the founder of Mustika Kwitang Jakarta, Zakaria. Around him are pesilat from the United Kingdom visiting Jakarta. Enny Rukmini Sekarningrat Enny Rukmini Sekarningrat is the most renown woman pendekar in Indonesia, who greatly contributed to the development of pencak silat. She heads Panglipur in West Java. Sukowinadi Sukowinadi is the heir of Gusti Harimurti tradition transmitted within the Mataram dynasty in Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. Sukowinadi Sukowinadi is the founder of PERPI Harimurti Yogyakarta. He is also my guru. I learned breathing techniques to control myself, and many locking techniques. Gusti Alit Dira In the middle is sitting Gusti Alit Dira, the guru from Bakti Negara Denpasar, Bali. Ibrahim Ibrahim is an expert in Lambak Kidul style and spiritual teacher of Sin Lam Ba. He taught me Sin Lam Ba breathing techniques against black magic. Ismail Fadilah Ismail Fadilah lives in Jalan Diponogoro 23, Situbondo, East Java, Indonesia. Ismail Fadilah Ismail Fadilah is one of the technical conceptor of Tapak Suci Indonesia. Ismail Fadilah Ismail Fadilah is a member of the Council of Pendekar of Tapak Suci Indonesia Plenteran Technique This technique is called plenteran, and it is used to break a shoulder.
